Managing/Sharing Your Club's Calendar

Before we get into club calendar functionality, I'd like to first say that if you have not yet taken control of your club's profile, please email clubs@geology365.com and supply proof that you are part of the officers for the club (A link to your name/title on the clubs website is usually easiest).

Managing Calendar Sharing Settings

First you will need to navigate to your club's profile. To do this,

  1. In the left menu, click on "Clubs"
  2. Click on the edit icon (pencil) next to your club (it should be at the top of the list)
  3. Look for the section titled "Calendar Settings" in the bottom right.

There are a few fields that pertain to your calendar.

  • Default Timezone - This setting will be used when creating events. It will set the timezone to the club's default so you don't have to manually set it each time.
  • Share Calendar of Events with Other Clubs? - By checking this box, other club's will be able to include your club's events on their calendar.
  • Shared Calendars – By checking any of the clubs in this section, their events will show up on your calendar.

This enables your club's calendar to be shared with other clubs, however, each event must also have sharing enabled. We will talk about that in the next section.

Adding Events to Your Club's Calendar

First, navigate to the events section by clicking "Events" in the left menu.

If you are adding a new event, click on "+ New Event" in the top right of the page.

If you are editing an existing event, find the event in the list and click the edit icon (pencil) to the right of the event you'd like to edit.

Most of the fields are self explanatory, but I'd like to point out a few to make sure their purpose is clear.

  • Event Type - While this field is self explanatory, I'd like to point out that by changing the event type, some fields will appear or disappear based on the type you choose.
  • Timezone - This will allow viewers of the calendar to select their timezone and see events in their own timezone.
  • Privacy: Only Visible to Members - By checking this box, visitors to your website must be logged in and an active member of your club to see this event.
  • Privacy: Show On Website - Whether or not the event will appear on your club's website.
  • Privacy: Share Event with Other Club's (can show on their calendar) - By checking this box, this event will appear on other club's calendars if 1) You have enabled calendar sharing for your club (see above) and 2) at least one club has selected your club in their settings.

Seeing Your Club's Events

Geology365.com Club Website

If you are making use of a Geology365.com club website (free or paid), your events will show up on your site, as well as on a page that contains a calendar.

Embed Calendar on a non-Geology365.com Club Website

If you are not using a Geology365.com club website, you can still embed your club's calendar on your website. To do that, copy the "Calendar Embed Code" from your club's edit page, and paste it into your sites HTML.

Shared Calendars

In addition, if you have chosen to share your club's calendar/events, then your events will show on any calendars that have elected to include your events.
